BACKGROUND:

The Kenya Progressive Women’s Alliance was formed this year by a number of strong-willed and passionate Kenyan women who felt that there was a gap in the rhetoric and practice of putting Kenyan women in leadership positions. We realized that although Kenya is endowed with a lot of wealth and a rich heritage that we are all proud of the women of Kenya are left behind when it comes to enjoying the fruits of their labor as a country.

The second thing that we realized was that like all people all over the world, Kenyans are experiencing a transition between the industrial age and the opening of the age of information.  Power is moving from industry to the control of information. Kenya and Africa as a whole needs to embrace this change in a timely and effective manner. Thus the Kenya Progressive Women’s Alliance was established to take a lead in empowering Kenyan women within Kenya and in the diaspora to embrace change in the age of information by:

1. Studying and understanding the forces of change.
2. Embracing and working with the forces of change.
3. Influencing and managing the forces of change.
4. Leading and being the forces of change.

Rationale/Justification:  The new constitution of Kenya gives the citizens immense power and opportunity to be in charge of their own destiny in all spheres of life. Women are particularly favored. It is with this in mind that the Kenya Progressive Women’s Alliance (KEPWA) seeks to pour fresh blood in the Kenyan legislative, judicial and executive systems by inspiring women, empowering them, challenging and enabling them to take strategic positions in those bodies.

STRATEGY/ACTIVITIES:

The Kenya Progressive Women’s Alliance (KEPWA) shall carry out the following activities as strategies of accomplishing her goals:
1. International Dialogue Conference.
2. National Dialogue Conference.
3.Regional Dialogue Conferences.

These conferences shall bring together leaders of various civil society groups, Private sector, political action groups and parties, NGOs, Religious groups, Student leaderships, Youth movements, and Women organizations, Consumer and residents organizations, Professional groups, media, etc

The dialogue meetings shall chart the way forward for the women.
